The lectionary (daily Bible readings) is taking a quick tour through the Old Testament prophets. Micah was a rough contemporary of Isaiah but without his influence in the palace. He was more a man of the people, particularly the poor. During his time the northern kingdom of Israel was destroyed and the population sent into exile. This led to a massive land grab. Our fields are portioned out among our captors, The fields of my people are measured out, and no one can get them back! Sadly the fight over who has a right to the land was a perennial story during the Biblical era (think Joshua and the Canaanites) and continues right up to today in the Palestinian plea for a “right of return.”
