In the Book of Exodus the origins of Moses are told in fifteen verses. A certain man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman, who conceived and bore a son. It took Cecil B. DeMille two hours! (Some embellishments along the way.) Origin stories are a staple when talking about a hero. Where did Superman get his powers? How can Spiderman do his mighty deeds? So in the Bible the origins of Moses are important in understanding who he is and his role in the history of salvation. Even though we might not be super heroes we have an origin story as well. We come to the faith because others have nourished us and nurtured us in how to live in God. No one is an island, we are part of a story larger than ourselves. All of which reminds us that we have an obligation to share our faith with others. Other individuals origins in the faith depend on us.
