Much of the Book of Jeremiah is the prophet yelling at the people. When I brought you into the garden land
to eat its goodly fruits, You entered and defiled my land, you made my heritage loathsome. Certainly chiding the nation was a common prophetic practice, up to and including Jesus. Most people do not respond well to being yelled at so Jesus developed a different strategy to get the people thinking — he told parables. The parables were intended to produce a reaction in the hearer so that they would have an interior motivation to make the kind of change, conversion, that was necessary. A principle of communication is don’t tell, show. Having our own experiences is much more powerful than someone telling us something.
