The Office of Evangelization has given St. James some action steps. The Parish Vitality Coordinator has given St. James some action steps. From the Disciple Maker Index we are supposed to develop action steps. The Committee for a Beloved Community is suggesting action steps for St. James. The Parish Council has its action steps. While action steps are necessary in order to fulfill our mission in the world there is one action that has to precede all the others: placing our trust in God. The world, our city, the church have so many needs that must be addressed but we are not going to fix anything by the dint of our labors. It is God who will bring about the change we need. When the Hebrew children were fearful because of Pharaoh’s army they were told to trust in God. “The LORD himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still.” Yes, let’s spring into action but our first action is stilling our hearts in prayerful confidence for what God can do.
