The prophet Jeremiah laments all of the trouble and difficulty his nation is enduring. We can relate. All too often we wonder why we have to go through such tough situations. As the milkman, Tevye, posed the question to God: “Lord, I know we are the chosen people but couldn’t you choose someone else once in a while.” As the prophet reflects further he accepts that God’s perspective is more expansive than our human one. He might not always understand but he trusts in God’s goodness. Faith requires that we too trust that God’s plan is for the best. Dr. King had a similar perspective when he said: “The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.”
