“The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried, … a merchant searching.” The images that Jesus used to help us understand the spiritual life tell us that God is hiding in plain sight. There a rather obscure play by Anthony Newley which begins with a song. “There is a beautiful land where all your dreams come true … but it’s not easy to find no matter what you do.” You can search from China to Peru and even look for Timbuck-three but you will never find it there because “that beautiful land is in your heart.” Since God is a mystery we often imagine that God is beyond us. Jesus wanted us to understand that God is nearer to us than we are to ourselves.
