For the next weeks we read about the Jacob. He was something of a con artist and momma’s boy. After stealing his brother’s birthright he feared for his life and fled. On the road he camps in a certain place and has a vision of “the stairway to heaven.”  Jacob awoke from his sleep, he exclaimed, “How awesome is this shrine! This is nothing else but an abode of God, and that is the gateway to heaven!” The Jacob cycle is a reminder that God uses flawed individuals, people just like you and me, to bring about the divine purpose in the world. Let us give thanks hat God uses who we are with all our quirks to help bring about more peace and justice.
