JULY92018

July 9, 2018 By Church Staff

Everyone remembers their first love. The experience of being something more than yourself, of being connected with another, leaves an indelible impression. The prophet Hosea uses that image to remind Israel of their relationship with God. The Lord said: “I will lead [Israel] into the desert and speak to her heart. She shall respond there as in the days of her youth.” The human reality is that we cannot sustain the intensity of first love. Couples know they must do things to keep the love alive. Israel neglected to do that and soon found herself with a “wandering eye” looking for something they knew not what. The prophet urges them, and us, to re-kindle the devotion which first led us to live as believers.
