The Book of Tobit was probably written about the year 300BCE, probably in Babylon, probably in Aramaic. It was not part of the Hebrew Bible but was included in the Greek translation of the Old Testament called the Septuagint which served as the basis for the Christian Bible. However, Martin Luther did not include it in his translation of the Bible into German since it was not part of the Hebrew Bible. Hence, Catholic Bibles include the book and Protestant Bibles don’t. The scene today of Anna complaining to her husband reminded me of my former director saying, “Don’t be a street angel and a house devil.” When working with the people we are understanding and compassionate. In the house we are judgmental and critical.
