One puzzling aspect of the pandemic has been that some people have not been able to think in terms of the common good. Responses to mask wearing or vaccine getting have been couched in terms of personal freedom instead of how my actions impact others. St. Paul wanted the people of Corinth to think more broadly than only themselves. The love of Christ impels us… He indeed died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. Living for Christ demands recognizing the face of Christ in the “least of the brothers and sisters.” Instead of singing “I gotta be me” we should start singing “I gotta be we.”
