2 Corinthians 6 was the scripture passage my classmates and I chose as our ordination theme. Looking at the text today we were probably highlighting St. Paul’s statement: “In everything we commend ourselves as ministers of God.” That is as true today as it was 45 years ago. Looking again at the epistle another line stands out all these years later: Behold, now is the day of salvation. The Apostle felt a sense of urgency that impelled him to bring the gospel into the world. How easy it is to get complacent, to slip into what is called nowadays “maintenance mode,” just taking care of who is coming instead of reaching out to those who aren’t. Now is the time to get out of a rut!
