One of the most disturbing elements of the current political environment is the complete disregard for truth. (This is not something new, witness Pilate’s challenge to Jesus “What is truth?”) One political operative told a reporter that the reporter was trying to get in touch what what was happening in reality while politics is all about creating your own reality. The truth is that God is the author of creation and to ignore the real situation of what people are going through or how things are unfolding in the world is to operate outside of God’s plan. Jesus summed up his approach: Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the Evil One.” The reality is that every human being is a child of God that deserves to be treated with respect. The reality is that there is a balance in nature that if not carefully tended will cause irreperable harm to our “common home.” Remember Sgt Friday: “Just the facts, Maam.”
