We grew up with the joyful. sorrowful, and glorious mysteries of the rosary. Pope John Paul II added new mysteries: the luminious mysteries. There are so many aspects of the life of Jesus that are worth our prayerful meditation. Sister Marissa suggested that we might want to add some additional mysteries. How about the cranky mysteries of Jesus! In Mark 11 Jesus cursed out a fig tree for not having fruit (even though it was not in season) and then went into the temple to drive out the money changers. How often had he been in the temple before but on this one day he had just had it to here and needed to act. Jesus was having a bad day! We should not be surprised since the Bible tells us that he is like is in all things but sin. Having a bad day is not sin, it is human reality. St. Mark goes on to say that Jesus learned from his bad day about the power of prayer: all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. On your next bad day ask what lesson, what message God wants you to get.
