Do not worry about tomorrow. If Jesus had put this word in the form of commandment it would be: Thou shalt not worry. Seems irresponsible not to worry about, and prepare for, the storm that is coming, the health crisis which is part of the human condition, the need for finances as we get older and can’t work. Is Jesus against the insurance industry! Actually looking at the entire passage we find that what Jesus really wants is a shift in priorities. “Seek first the Kingdom of God.” If we are attentive to justice and peace and forgiveness and compassion we will find ourselves living in God’s world which is a place of blessing. If we live in a world where everyone is looking out for number one we will find ourselves in constant conflict as we scrap over limited resources. The God who spun the galaxies and ignited the stars can take care of the likes of us.
