We can relate to the reaction of Zachariah and Elizabeth’s relatives and neighbors exclaiming at the birth of John, later to be the Baptist, “What, then, will this child be?” We can say that about every child because we recognize the infinite possibilities present. On Sunday, seeing Seraphina rejoicing and celebrating at being back in Church reminded us of the potential present in new life. Sadly, that same evening there was a news report of a four year old being shot in Chicago — the thirteenth fatality of over 100 children shot this year. That contrast should spur us into action to make sure that we do what we can to promote safety, health, education so that every child can be who God made them to be.
