The LORD called me from birth, from my mother’s womb he gave me my name. This prophetic word from the prophet Isaiah is applied to the birth of John the Baptist — and we can apply it to our birth as well. Isaiah, John and now us are in the eye of God at every moment of  our lives. We are loved by God from the first moment of our existence, just by being who we are, before we do anything. And we are loved by God no matter what we do or what is done to us subsequently. Because of that believers are sent to bring the message of God’s unconditional love into the world. I will make you a light to the nations. Of course the best way to be the light of God’s love is to pass it on. Since we have received divine love unasked and unearned we are called to love all God’s children in the same way and so reflect God’s grace and glory in the world.
