The Biblical evidence is that no one relishes the role of prophet. How much easier it would be just to care about oneself, what I am going through, instead of suffering the pain of others. God plants in the heart of a prophet this passion to make the world look at least a little more like God intends. The prophet responds. The lion roars—who will not be afraid! The Lord GOD speaks— who will not prophesy! As people anointed as prophets at our baptism we must be attentive to the roaring lion of God’s justice. In our day there are so many ungodly things in the world we are tempted to pull into a turtle shell but God calls for more from us.
