Ordinary time. After the forty days of Lent and the fifty days of Easter we are back in ordinary time in the Church’s calendar. Ordinary time is significant in the individual spiritual life because it is in the ordinary that we meet God. Oh, there probably are those mountain-top-knocked-off-your-horse moments but they are not the norm. Usually we meet God in caring for the home, in being diligent on the job, in reaching out to the neighbor. It is easy to miss God during those times because they are, well, ordinary. God is present in ordinary experience but we only recognize the presence of God by reflecting on experiences in life. In our prayer during these days, let’s find God’s presence in the everyday.
