The story is that at the end of his life people would come to John the Evangelist as the last living apostle and ask him to settle this, that or the other dispute among them. No matter what the issue the Apostle would answer, “Little children, love one another.” St. John stressed that no matter our disagreements, we are called to love and unity. He, no doubt, picked up that theme from Jesus as we hear in the High Priestly Prayer in John 17: “I pray not only for these but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us.”
