“Stop judging and you will not be judged.‘ How are we to understand this commandment of Jesus when we are making judgments all the time? For example, we have made the judgment that the systemic racism in our society must be eliminated. We need to couple that Jesus commandment with another: Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. We don’t judge in criticism but in mercy. Remember what Atticus Finch told his daughter in To Kill a Mockingbird? “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” We must strive to understand how racism became so imbedded into the American soul in order to eradicate it.
