Today is the last day of “ordinary” (counted) time until after Pentecost. In ordinary time the scripture readings are what are known as a Lectio continuo, starting a particular book of the Bible and reading it chapter by chapter. (In Lent/Easter the readings are particular for each day.) It is unfortunate that we won’t hear more from the first letter of St. Peter we started this week. Peter (or whoever the author was) is offering consolation to people going through difficult times. Set your hopes completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. The epistle instructs us to back up and see the big picture of God’s plan for out lives to situate the meaning of our suffering.
