If we want to understand about the kingdom of God we should pay more attention to children. Jesus certainly referred to children often as he taught his disciples. “Become like a child…” “Receive a child…” “Whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” When an adult receives a gift they do a calculation of its worth. “This is too much,” they will often say, because they are figuring what they will need to give in their turn. Children never say “this is too much.” They are just awed when they receive a gift out of the norm and (maybe after some parental prompting) thankful. That is the model for our acceptance of God in our lives. We didn’t do anything to deserve it. We can’t do anything to repay it. All we can do is enjoy being a people God has chosen to be his own and offer thanks.
