“No one has ever spoken as this man has.” The Gospels are filled with sermons, stories and sayings of Jesus. He was the greatest teacher in history. The problem for us two thousand years later is that his challenging words have lost their ability to shock. We are so accustomed to hearing his words that the radical and demanding nature of his teaching has become domesticated. Our homework for today: listen to the words of Jesus with fresh ears and decide how you are going to respond. “If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn and offer him the other.” “How often must you forgive? Seventy times seven times.” “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, pray for those who persecute you.” “Stop worrying about what you are going to eat or what you are going to wear.”
