I find the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus chilling. The way Jesus tells the parable the Rich Man was not a bad person. He at least cared for his brothers. But he ended up in hell because he ignored Lazarus at his door. He just took it for granted that he would be rich and Lazarus would be in need at his door. I say chilling because it causes me to ask what am I overlooking? What situation am I just taking for granted? “That’s just the way it is.” This parable causes me to wonder who is Lazarus at my door? I must have the courage to respond to those situations which aren’t right but which I usually don’t deal with.
