“Let us kill the master dreamer and see what becomes of his dreams.” This threat issued by Joseph’s brothers in the book of Genesis was used during the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Apparently the hope of the killers is that by killing the dreamer, you kill the dream. That was not the case with Joseph and it was not the case with Dr. King. The dream is stronger than death. I wonder if at least part of the problem in the Church and in the world today is a lack of dreamers, a lack of imagination. If we just hunker down and try to hold on to what is, we are not open to the new possibilities God has in store.
