The latest data shows that in the USA one-third of young adults (people in the 20s and 30s) have moved back home with their parents — almost always for economic reasons. Certainly that was the case with the Prodigal Son. In the parable as Jesus tells it the younger son was completely selfish, not caring how his actions impacted others in the family. So the move home was not because he cared for his family but because he had no where else to go. And his father welcomes him with open arms, joyfully. What a powerful reminder that God doesn’t care what motivates our desire to return to Divine Grace as long as we do so. God will purify our motivations later.
