“The measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.” These words of Jesus serve as a reminder that we can tie God’s hands. God desires to show upon us graces and blessings. All that we need do is be open to receiving them. However, God does not force us in any way. We are under no compulsion to receive forgiveness. And the way that we demonstrate that we are ready to receive God’s forgiving love is by extending forgiveness to others. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those …” We complain that the offender does not deserve forgiveness, and that might be true. But God does not ask if we deserve it, God just gives forgiveness and so must we.
