“Here comes that master dreamer! Come on, let us kill him… We shall then see what comes of his dreams.” This passage from the book of Genesis always reminds me of Dr. King. They killed the master dreamer but his dream did not die. It continues to inspire us almost sixty years after he spoke of his dream. We see his dream of a more just and peaceful society slowly, much too slowly, taking shape. (As Dr. King reminded us, “the arc of history is long…”) In today’s world where we must deal with a senseless war, the pernicious effects of racism, a political system characterized by factionalism it is easy to get discouraged. We must trust in the dream that God has for us!
