The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid.” Joseph’s greatness can be recognized in that he trusted in the dream that God had for him. God has a dream for our world — that it become a place of peace and justice where all God’s children have a place. God has a dream for our families — that we can be a loving support to one another and create islands of serenity where people can grow in wisdom, age and grace. God has a dream for each of us as individuals — that we will understand that we are made in the divine image and are precious to God, of infinite worth. There are so many forces that want to fracture our world, disrupt our famiies, make us doubt ourselves. We must be like Joseph and have hope in God’s dream for us. Hope is an elusive thing, like a bird on the wing, but when we have hope in God’s dream God is once again born in our world.
