St. Joseph believed in the dream that God had for him. He models for us the importance of trusting the dream. In our time Dr. King spoke about his dream of a more just and peaceful society. He believed that the God of justice was trustworthy and, though he didn’t get to see the fullness of his dream come true, his dream continues to inspire the nation. Because of current events it is easy to despair that our society, our nation, our world will ever become the place of compassion, of kindness, of generosity, of unity that God desires for us. We have to become like St. Joseph and trust the dream of God. He believed, hoping against hope, St. Paul says of Abraham but he could just has readily said it of St. Joseph. Our faith requires of us to believe that it is the loftiest dream that is the surest of becoming true.
