Even though St. Joseph’s feast day is assigned to March 19, this year (since March 19 was a Sunday) we celebrate the feast today. Joseph bears the name of the Old Testament patriarch who is called “the master dreamer.” Joseph was also a dreamer, divine dreams sent to him to guide his actions in life. His dreams made it possible to take Mary as a wife and showed Joseph how to protect the child Jesus from those who would wish to harm him. His feast day provides us with the opportunity to reflect on the dreams that God has for us. God wishes us to “have life, and have it to the full.” This Lenten season is the opportunity to root out deadening habits in our lives.
