It is probably not a good idea to disagree with Jesus but what are we to make of his instruction to listen to those who preach but do not practice. Think, for example, of parents who tell their children not to cuss or smoke when they continue cuss and smoke. The children can’t process that mixed message. We as a culture love to tear people down from their pedestal! We look for some flaw in our leaders to bring them down to our level. To get what Jesus is saying notice how he praises those who “humble themselves.” Mother Teresa, for example, was already at the lowest rung of the social hierarchy so we can practice the charity she that she preached by her life
