After washing the feet of his disciples Jesus told them, “I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” Jesus’ model of humble service is not what is honored or respected in modern society. We admire the movers and the shakers, those climbing the ladder, change agents: the Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey-types. What do you think of the notion that caring for others more than asserting ones own role and identity is the way to a happy and fulfilled life? Parents know it is true. Actually Bill Gates and Oprah learned it as well once they got to the top of the heap. We have Jesus as our model. Who needs our care today?
