Jesus was criticized because of the personal, intimate way he spoke of God as Father. Jesus also called God his own father, making himself equal to God. The Prophet Isaiah picks up a different Biblical theme and uses maternal images for God. Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? The Bible demonstrates that family is the privileged place where we learn about God. Even though we didn’t grow up in the Holy Family we learn at home about kindness, forgiveness, compassion, generosity. Even when we recognize that our parents are flawed we still receive from them the contant love that makes human life and growth possible. In your prayer today thank God for your mother and father.
