One constant human temptation is to keep God in heaven. If God is in heaven, above us all, an impossible ideal, then not much should be expected of us who wallow in the muck and the mire. Jesus came, of course, to bridge that gap, to let us know that God is not above us but with us. If the Scripture calls them gods to whom the word of God came, can you say that the one whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world blasphemes because I said, ‘I am the Son of God‘? In Jesus we are shown we can live a godly life of compassion, forgiveness, generosity, mercy, love — including particularly those who feel excluded, marginated, hurt. The challenge for believers is to have the eyes to see God-is-with-us.
