At the King Center in Atlanta the mortal remains of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are found in a large white sarcophagus in the middle of a plaza. On it are written the words from reminiscent of those in Genesis: “Here comes that master dreamer! Come on, let us kill him. We shall then see what comes of his dreams.” Sixty years on we see that the dream of Dr. King has progressed — we’re not there yet but we are on the way. That’s how God’s will happens. Not all at once but bit by bit, step by step. As Dr. King said, “The arc of history is long but it bends toward justice.” We need to take that lesson to heart today when things seem to be going to hell in a handbasket. God still has a dream that this world can become a place of compassion, mercy, justice and peace. We should not get discouraged that getting there takes time. Instead we should add our bit, our step to help bring out the divine plan.
