The parable of the sheep and the goats is one that causes a chill to run up my spine. The goats ask the king: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to you?’ They were condemned for NOT SEEING. It wasn’t any deliberate act of malice or any decision to do something mean that sent them to “eternal punishment.” Rather, they were so wrapped up in what they were going through, in their own drama that they did not notice those who were hurting around them. A powerful challenge to us that we should become aware of the situations of those who are suffering and expand our circle of care.
