MARCH72024

March 7, 2024 By Church Staff

I have sent you untiringly all my servants the prophets. Yet they have not obeyed me nor paid heed. The prophet Jeremiah found that people didn’t respond well when challenged to change. God reminds the prophet that it was always thus. And it is still thus. Vivid in my mind are news images of the dogs and firehouses being turned on children who were seeking their rights as Americans during the civil rights era. The prophetic voice calling for justice met resistance from those entrenched in power. In our own time, prophetic voices, including that of Pope Francis, are begging us to take better care of our “common home,” Mother Earth. The resistance from those who profit from the current system has made movement toward a more sustainable future much too slow. And in the Church, prophetic voices that tell us we must find new ways of bringing the gospel into the world since the old ways no longer work are looked upon askance. In our prayer today we should look where we find resistance to conversion developing in our hearts.
