I was struck by this line in the Acts of the Apostles: “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…” The Holy Spirit never said anything to me despite my worship and fasting! It seems that we have to discover God’s will without the direct intervention of the Holy Spirit. We need to pray, take counsel, discern, consider, judge on our way to a decision and can only hope it is from the Holy Spirit. That is why all of our decisions are made with humility, aware that our own limitations might influence the decision. But as long as our one desire and choice is to discover the will of God, the Lord takes our tentative steps as from above.
