After a lack of success preaching to the Jewish people in Pisidia, St. Paul declared:”we now turn to the Gentiles.” A fisherman friend of mine understood this passage completely. “If the fish are biting in one area, you go where the fish are biting.” And yet, we know from Paul’s letter to the Romans that he never gave up he hope for his co-religionists. “My heart’s desire, my prayer to God for the Israelites, is that they may be saved” (Romans 10:1). The analogy for today might be the millennial generation. Fully one-fourth of that cohort describe themselves as having no religious affiliation. While we as Church must care for the sheep or are coming, “our heart’s desire, our prayer” is for those who aren’t.
