We read in the Book of Acts: “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.'” Don’t you wish that the Holy Spirit would tell you what to do? It would make decisions so much easier. Exactly how did the Holy Spirit informed them of the will of God? Was it a booming voice from heaven? Or were one of the prophets filled with ecstatic utterance? The hint from the Bible is that they heard the Holy Spirit while “worshiping and fasting.” In other words, they were together in prayer and discerned the voice of the Holy Spirit. We learn God’s will together in prayer too.
