The jailor was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted out in a loud voice, “Do no harm to yourself; we are all here.” In chapter 12 of Acts St. Peter is in prison and when miraculously freed leaves the jail and resumes his preaching ministry. When St. Paul finds himself in a similar situation he does not leave but instead uses the occasion to bring good news to the jailor. What a vivid illustration that different circumstances require different responses. One size does not fit all. Think of a parent who has to understand the unique personality of each child and respond accordingly. The love is always the same, how it looks is not. Similarly, in every circumstance of life we must be discerning about what the Holy Spirit requires of us at this time, in this place, with this person.
