During the fifty days of Easter the first reading assigned each day is taken from the Acts of the Apostles. As we read those stories we see how faith in the Risen Jesus galvanized those first believers into bold missionaries. The gospel text is usually taken from St. John’s Gospel, for the last few weeks from the so-called “Final Discourse” of Jesus at the Last Supper. The Lord teaches the disciples and us what it means to be his followers. Today, at the end of the Easter Season we hear the post-resurrection story of Jesus and Peter at Galilee. Jesus and Peter needed to reconcile after his three-fold denial. Peter learned that love, unconditional love, that leads to service is how to atone for sin.
