Paul had been arrested. While he was in prison an earthquake damaged the jail. The jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, [he thought] that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted out in a loud voice, “We are all here.” There was an earlier scene in the ACTS when St. Peter was in prison. When his prison door opened he went through it to freedom. The change in circumstance between Peter and Paul required a different response. Our circumstance has certainly changed in the past few months so we must respond differently as well. But what doesn’t change is our responsibility to show compassion, charity, hospitality. Our challenge: to show the love of Jesus even while we are practicing social distancing.
