In the South people will sometime ask “Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior.” While knowing Jesus is a necessary part of faith, it is not sufficient. Judas knew Jesus but betrayed him. Peter knew Jesus but denied him. The rest of the apostles knew Jesus but abandoned him. That serves as background for the post-Easter encounter between Jesus and Peter. “Do you love me?” Jesus said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.” Faith in Jesus comes alive when the focus shifts off of oneself and onto “feeding the sheep.” A good litmus test for our faith in Jesus is the ability to recognize him in the face of suffering.
