In the Bread of Life Discourse Jesus described the gift of the Eucharist. “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.” According to St. John many of his disciples found this saying hard and no longer walked with him.
Since I have experienced the real presence of Jesus in my life in receiving Holy Communion and seen it in others that saying has the ring of truth. However, there are many of the sayings of Jesus that I do find hard. “Love you enemies, do good to those who hate you.” “Stop worrying.” “Stop judging.” I work to live up to these lofty demands because, like Peter, I say: “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
