St. Paul was imprisoned in Philippi (Acts 16:23). A mighty earthquake broke open the prison doors and pulled the chains away from their anchors. Instead of escaping Paul and his companions stayed in the prison. This occasioned the conversion of the jailor and his whole household. Contrast that with the experience of St. Peter in jail. Through divine intervention the doors of the prison were opened (Acts 5:19) and St. Peter took the opportunity to escape. Two similar experiences with two different responses. That serves as a reminder to us that the will of God cannot be found according to some pre-determined pattern. Each day we must discern seek what God wants of us in this particular circumstance. The Renew My Church process will require careful discernment.
