Unlike an adult, a child on Christmas morning never thinks “oh no, they gave me a present and I didn’t get one for them” or “this is too much. What did I do to deserve this.” No, on Christmas morning a child is simply delighted to be given gifts. That helps illustrate the saying of Jesus: “whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” God does not love us because we deserve it. God does not love us in a tit for tat way. God simply loves us and that makes us lovable. Like a child at Christmas we simply accept the gift of God’s love with a grateful heart and that makes all the difference.
