Jesus prayed to God for his disciples since “the world hated them because they do not belong to the world.” When St. Paul give his final admonition to the “presbyters of the Church of Ephesus” he warned them savage wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock. Both the Lord and the Apostle are saying to their followers “Brace yourself. Trouble is coming.” Jesus charts a course through the trouble. He asked God to consecrate them in the truth. The truth is that we are children of God, beloved, named and claimed, and all brothers and sisters as a result. Because of who we are and whose we are, St. Paul implies, we must help the weak. That’s the truth!
