MAY292023

May 29, 2023 By Church Staff

After Jesus had been taken up to heaven  the Apostles returned to Jerusalem. They went to the upper room where they were staying and devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. Today the Church celebrates Mary as “Mother of the Church.” She was with the apostles when the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost. Not only her but “some women and his brothers” were also there, about 120 individuals according to St. Luke. While this is certainly a day to reverence Mary it also serves as a reminder that most of those in Jesus Movement are unknown to us. Their lives were touched but they never had any position or authority. They simply lived as Jesus had taught them as people filled with the Holy Spirit. That is our story as well. Let us let the Spirit of God fill us so that we can live with compassion, forgiveness and generosity and in that way change the world.
